A psychological developmental approach to the unique aspects of the female experience. An emphasis on research in the area will be used to explore the historical, social, and psychological aspects of female development in American society. Theories of development, psychological influences, sex difference, female achievement, and androgyny will be discussed. Lecture 3 hours.

Introduces the student to the profession of social work and its programs, as well as the services which have developed in response to human needs. Historical and political perspectives will be used in the description of the field, emphasizing the relationship between social work and social welfare institutions. Students will critically examine the values, mandates, and issues of diversity that affect the field. Professional ethics and practice principles will be discussed.
