An introduction to Earth systems. This course presents the definitions, functions, and interactions among these vital systems of earth, water, air, organisms, and human culture. The course will address human impacts on natural systems and how best to manage and conserve them. Assignments will include case studies and evaluation of human production activities and alternatives to current production methods in terms of long term ecologic, economic, and social sustainability. Course work will emphasize critical thought and independent inquiry of current environmental issues and the fundamental scientific principals underlying them.
