Students develop the ability to use intermediate-level grammatical structures appropriate to classroom discussion, oral presentation, and writing more sophisticated academic paragraphs with an emphasis on increased accuracy. In order to pass, students must earn a C or better in coursework and a passing score on the comprehensive departmental final exam. Prerequisites or corequisites: EAP 0400 and EAP 0440 or demonstrate required level of proficiency.

Students develop the ability to use intermediate grammatical structures by writing simple, compound, and complex sentences in structured academic paragraphs and other academic writing tasks. Emphasis is on increased accuracy, vocabulary development, logical thought process, and fluency. In order to pass, students must earn a C or better in coursework. Prerequisite: EAP 0385 with a grade of C or higher or demonstrate required level of proficiency. Corequisite: EAP 0400 unless previously taken.

Students further develop communication skills necessary for full participation in mainstream college classrooms including comprehension of extensive discourse with a focus on lecture notetaking. In order to pass, students must earn a C or better in coursework and a passing score on the department exit examination. Prerequisite: EAP 0400 with grade of C or higher or equivalent proficiency level.

The purpose of this course is to build college-level reading skills for the non-native speaker of English. This objective will be met through focus and strategies specific to the EAP student's needs. In order to pass, students must earn a C or better in coursework. Prerequisite: EAP 0420 with grade of C or higher or equivalent proficiency level. Corequisite: EAP 1500 unless previously taken.

Students develop the ability to write basic, structured academic paragraphs and essays with an emphasis on accuracy and cohesiveness and execute other academic tasks. In addition to classroom requirements, students must attend a scheduled lab. In order to pass, students must earn a C or better and earn a passing score on the comprehensive departmental final exam. Prerequisite: EAP 0440 or EAP 0480 or EAP 0485 with grade of C or better or demonstrated equivalent proficiency level. Corequisites: EAP 1500 unless previously taken and EAP1560.

In order to pass, students must earn a C or better in coursework and a passing score on the comprehensive departmental final/exit exam. Prerequisite: EAP 0460 or EAP 0480 or 0485 with grade of C or better or equivalent proficiency level.

Students improve their pronunciation of American English, including stress, rhythm, and intonation. The phonetic structure of consonant sounds is systematically analyzed, and students are given practice in correctly pronouncing these sounds and patterns in context. In order to pass, students must earn a C or better in coursework. Prerequisite: demonstrate minimum EAP 0400 level of proficiency.

In order to pass, students must earn a C or better and a passing score on the Comprehensive Departmental Exit Exam. Prerequisite: EAP 1520 with grade of C or higher or equivalent proficiency level.

Students develop the ability to write a variety of college-level essays with sophistication, fluency, and accuracy, and execute other academic writing tasks. In order to pass, students must earn a C or better in coursework and a passing score on the comprehensive departmental final exam. Prerequisite: EAP 1540 with grade of C or higher or equivalent proficiency level. Corequisite: EAP 1560 unless taken previously or unless exempt.
