Prerequisites: HIM 1800L. Quality Assurance processes will be investigated in this class. Assessment tools will be created and utilized to assure HIM and facility wide compliance. Assessment methodologies and the use of their outcomes will also be investigated.

Prerequisites: HIM 1800L. Basic supervision/management theories, human relations, motivational skills, supervisory principles and workflow assessments will be applied. Job descriptions, policy/procedures and evaluation tools will be researched and developed.

Prerequisites: HIM 2234C and HIM 2253C. This practicum will give the student "hands on" experiencein coding a compilation of cases from both the inpatient and outpatient arena. Emphasis will be placed on quality of specific code assignment, sequencing, and payment selection. The student will also be expected to tour a HIM department, meet with and interview the Admitting and Billing Department, and a coding supervisor. The student will have a minimum of 80 hours of coding practice. Students should be prepared to work one day a week at the assigned facility.

Prerequisites: HIM 2211C, HIM 2512C, HIM 2253C and HIM 2234C. This practicum will focus on coding and reimbursement applications, chart auditing, supervision practices, and work-flow processes and project management. The student will gain experience in the following arenas: Utilization Management, Risk Management, and Quality Assurance and Database queries. This practicum will include a minimum of 120 contact hours with the facility. The student should be prepared to work one day a week at the assigned facility.

Prerequisite: HIM 2211C, HIM 2512C, HIM 2253C and HIM 2234C. This course is a comprehensive review of all the material learned in the HIM program. It is designed to assist the student in preparing for the certification examination, as well as preparation into the HIM field.

Prerequisite: HIM 2234C and HIM 2253C. This course will review the ICD-9-CM and CPT guidelines and application skills required for accurate and optimal inpatient, outpatient and physician office coding. This class is to assist in preparing the student for the CCS.

This course is designed to give students the knowledge to design, implement, and to adopt positive behavioral lifestyle changes concerning their personal growth in health and well-being. Topics include assessment of health behaviors, nutrition, physical and mental well-being, stress management, alcohol and drug education, exercise, sexuality, and a variety of others that relate to personal understanding of well-being. Assessment of current physical condition will be utilized in developing their personal fitness program. The course involves lecture and assessment as well as some participation activities.

Students will survey and become proficient in the use of medical and anatomical terminology, including definitions, word construction and analysis of disease, operative procedure, laboratory, diagnostic and treatment terms, and abbreviations as reflected in medical documentation. This course is required for Health Information Technology and Radiography programs of study.

A study of preventative and remedial principles of first aid a nd CPR. Lecture and laboratory practice shall be included in all phases of the program. This course is designed to award Red Cross Certifications in adult CPR, AED, Infant and Child CPR, and Standard First Aid.

Prerequisite: HSC 1531, CGS 1061C. This course facilitates the research of pharmacology, diagnostic and surgical services used to treat various disease processes.
