This course is for students who need a developmental course in writing. It includes a thorough review of English usage. Students practice writing a variety of sentence patterns, learn how to organize a paragraph, and receive an introduction to library research. The instructor may require additional laboratory practice. Students taking this class must take ENC 0010 next. Credit in this course does not count toward graduation.

Prerequisite: ENC 0001 or Placement Exemption This course, a continuation of ENC 0001, includes a review of English usage and instruction in the writing of sentences, paragraphs, and essays. Students are introduced to library research and write a short research paper. The instructor may require additional laboratory practice. Credit in this course does not count toward graduation.

Prerequisite: ENC 1101 Students preparing for careers in business, industry, or government receive instruction in the specialized skills of technical and professional writing. Through familiarity with long and short reports, graphic illustrations, and directions and instructions, students develop criteria for judging and producing technical and professional writing. Controlled group work, oral presentations, and practice in resume writing and interviewing can build confidence as students acquire the skills needed to make them competitive as promotable employees.

Prerequisite: ENC1102 This course is designed as a survey to acquaint students with the literary history of Great Britain from its beginnings to the 18th century. Through readings, discussions, films, and papers, students will study major works and their authors in relation to historical as well as literary trends. This course will begin with the Old English period and continue through the 18th Century. The student may take this course in sequence with ENL 2022 or individually.

Prerequisite: ENC 1102 This course is designed as a survey to acquaint students with the literary history of Great Britain during the 19th and 20th centuries. Through readings, discussions, films, and papers, students will study major works and their authors in relation to historical as well as literary trends. This course will specifically examine the 19th century Romantics, Victorians, and 20th Century works. The student may take this course in sequence with ENL2000 or individually.

A survey of selected masterpieces of Shakespeare's work. Includes excerpts from the sonnets and his tragedies and comedies. Students will study the background of his sonnets and plays and demonstrate an understanding of his life and the period in which he lived. They will study the structure and content of representative comedies and tragedies.

Prerequisite: Placement at college level or completion of required college prep courses. This course will allow students to discover and develop an understanding of the Earth, through the study of concepts and principles related to: geology, geophysics, oceanography, meteorology, and astronomy. The application of these principles to environmental problems and other specific problems of current interest will be explored. Demonstrations and multimedia presentations will be used to enhance the presentation of the course material.

This course is a study of fire inspection practices, including items such as purpose, definition, Fire Prevention Bureau activities, hazards, fire causes, types of construction including structural features, flame spread, occupancy and fire load, inspection techniques, and conducting inspections.
