Prerequisite: CHM 2210C or equivalent. This is the continuation of Organic Chemistry I which covers the following: alcohols, ethers, epoxides, carboxylic acids and their derivatives, amines, carbohydrates, amino acids and proteins; reactions of carbonyls at alpha carbons. Experiments cover techniques of preparation, isolation, and purification of compounds.

Prerequisites: CGS 2561C and COP 2702C. Students study fundamental analysis and design of computer information systems, problem analysis and definition, design of forms, data files and reports, documentation of procedures, and computer system management. Students use microcomputer systems to design and implement a prototype solution to a business problem. Hands-on labs will be used to reinforce class work.

Overview of American Correctional System examining its historical and philosophical origins; state and federal systems and its problems; treatment approaches; future trends and related facilities and agencies.

Prerequisite: Permission of program director. The interpersonal skills needed by officers to understand the incarcerated society are explored, with emphasis upon supervision methods. Inmate adjustment and the various segments of the society are studied. Includes study of homosexuality, female inmates, deception and manipulation by inmates, and institutional criminalities. Objectives addressed include those specified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.

Prerequisite: Permission of program director. The operation of correctional facilities is studied - including the intake of new inmates, all aspects of their daily care, institutional procedures, and techniques utilized by officers to perform daily tasks. Objectives addressed include those specified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.

Prerequisite: Permission of program director. An introductory review of the criminal justice system and a history of law. The foundation and basic components of law are studied. Emphasis on correctional officer application. Objectives addressed include those specified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.

Prerequisite: Permission of program director. Basic components of human needs and behavior are explored, as are the needs of various groups within the inmate society, including substance abusers, juveniles, mentally retarded and handicapped. Crisis intervention, stress management, and human and cultural diversity are also explored in depth. Objectives addressed include those specified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.

Examination of the nature of private/industrial security including history and development, organization and management, legal issues and loss prevention techniques. Both personal and physical security issues are studied.

A detailed exploration of ethical issues in Criminal Justice. Special emphasis on morality and the law, human behavior, and ethical decision making in law enforcement, corrections and the courts.

Values and ethics, interpersonal skills and human interaction in a law enforcement context are discussed. Constitutional Law and its application. Law, including arrest law, search and seizure and various statutory and procedural laws that relate to the law enforcement function. Civil and criminal liability for officers is studied. Objectives include those established by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
