Corequisites: HSC 0001, STS 0804.The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the duties and responsibilities of the surgical technologist as a member of the surgical team in a health care organization.Course topics will include surgical suite organization and management, the physical environment of the surgical suite, and the historical development of surgery.Communication skills and ethical, legal, and moral responsibilities of the surgical technologist will be emphasized throughout the course. Beginning skills needed in the operating room will be taught in the campus lab setting. Students will complete a clinical experience in perioperative observation.
