3 credits Principles of, and protocols for, general translating and interpreting are presented, then applied. Students develop proficiency and problemsolving methods in translating and interpreting for special purposes. The use of personal computers for glossary management, specialized diction aries, and on-line terminology banks is an integral part of the course. Codes of ethics and variations in certification processes are reviewed. Prerequisites: Three semesters of college Spanish or the equivalent, and per mission of the instructor or Department Coordinator. Offered: 2008 - 2010.

3 credits A systematic and complete review of Spanish grammar and syntax, with particular emphasis on the most difficult aspects of the language. The students will explore how Latin American women writers transform traditional views, develop a more inclusive liter ary perspective, and formulate a more integrated society. 3 credits The course examines poetry, theatre, and novels of the most representative Spanish writers of the 16th and 17th centuries. Even though these works were written between 1500 and 1700, the period is call "El siglo de oro" ("The Golden Century"). The students will explore thclassical works of Fernando de Rojas, Garcilaso de la Vega, Fray Luis de Leon, Tirso de Molina, Miguel de Cervantes, Lope de Vega, Calderon de la Barca, and the anonymous work Lazarillo de Tormes.
