The course covers research design problems, contem porary uses of psycho-physical methods, an overview of various learning theories, and a survey of approaches to studying human verbal learning and retention. 3 credits Fundamentals and applications of learning theory. The traditional work of Thorndike, Pavlov, Kohler, Guthrie, Hull, Tolman, Skinner, Spence, Miller, etc, will be surveyed. The main focus of the course will be on con temporary views of the learning process, especially as they apply to human verbal learning, problem solving, instructional programs, and memory. 3 credits This course is designed to familiarize students with basic theories and rudimentary techniques of counseling as they apply to the aging and their families. It introduces students to the special emotional and psychologi cal needs faced by the aging and their families, and how counseling can support individuals and families as they face these transitions and life adjustments. The course will explore how diversity, including culture, eth nicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and economic status, differen tially affect both the adjustments that individuals face and the nature of the counseling process. 3 credits This is an orientation course designed to help students decide whether they want to consider school psychology as a vocational choice. Though it is not specifically a course to teach how to assess children, eval uations, CSE involvement, as well as an overview to child development are discussed in some detail.
