Incidental references to Chinese history, culture, and business. Open only to students with no previous knowledge of Chinese.

It will emphasize composition and oral discussion as well as concepts necessary for a sophisticated appraisal of literature and culture in the target language. This course will be conducted in the target language.

It will study how these issues manifest through representative works of literature as well as popular and highbrow cultural media such as music and film. The course will also provide a unique opportunity to produce in-depth cultural and literary analyses via oral discussion and written essays. Students will perform select written and oral activities in Chinese.
