Practical introduction to social science research methods including survey research, content analysis, participant observation, and field research. Builds critical thinking skills for comparing and evaluating popular and academic reports/claims, focusing on social problems and social justice. Research design, data analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data, library research, and writing skills are taught through hands-on experiences. NOTE: This is a writing intensive course. Explores multiple literacies used to develop thinking and communication, with particular focus on elements of writing and the visual arts used in historical and contemporary contexts by artists and writers who convey positions on social justice issues.
