3 hours, 3 credits. Special topics related to social work and social welfare; analysis of the interaction of cultural, historical, political, economic, and legal factors with various social systems. Topic to be announced each semester. May be repeated for a maximum of 6 credits, with approval of the Program Director.

The cultural, political, and economic factors that influence individual and family systems, and the effect of available social welfare resources on these systems. Emphasis on issues of human diversity, including, race, ethnicity, gender, age, and sexual orientation. PREREQ: Admission into the Social Work program. PRE- or COREQ: BIO 183 and PSY 166.

Small and large groups, formal organizations, and communities as social systems; the effects of available social welfare resources and the interaction between diverse populations and these systems. PREREQ: SWK 305 with a minimum grade of C.

3 hours, 3 credits. Offered only in the fall semester. Theories and principles of social work practice. Emphasis on knowledge, skills, and values required for working with individuals, families, groups, and communities. PREREQ: Admission into the Social Work program. PRE- or COREQ: SWK 305.
