Some time will be spent on the pre conquest period, but most of the course will focus on those aspects of colonial society that have remained vital unto the present, the aftermath of political independence from Spain, the prominent role of British and North American interests in the region, the unique economic developments within each country and the revolutionary turmoil of the late 20th century.
