    The aim of the course is for students to become familiar with the continuing differences and inequalities between women and men in the contemporary United States, and to begin to explain why and how they occur. Understanding gender as it relates to race, class and sexual orientation is an important organizing framework of the course. Students will be instructed in the fundamentals of research design and implementation, including ethical considerations. Students will read and study the research projects of selected sociologists. Then students will engage in projects to practice research methods. Finally students will design and write a research proposal.
