Clinical experience in a specialized area of interest within nursing. Student is assigned to an experienced RN mentor. The student functions as he/she would in a beginning staff nurse position. This course focuses on the nursing process in helping a client and her family solve problems when a major complication threatens the progress of a normal pregnancy. The physical, psychological, nutritional, pharmacological and rehabilitation needs of the client are discussed in relation to the care needed for treatment and the effect the complication may have on the mother, infant and family. The major focus is on nursing responsibilities. (1 cr. hr.) (ASN). Prerequisite: NURS 1500. Considered a nursing elective for the Nursing Program.

An orientation course to assist students to be successful in college. Offered to all entering students. Includes academic strategies for learning, career development, time management, transition issues, computer orientation, note taking, and cultural awareness. (.5 cr. hr.) (Fall, Spring). Grading is Pass/No grade.

Introduction to structure and procedures of the American judicial system, substantive legal concepts, canons of legal ethics and professional responsibilities, basic legal research and writing skills, and the organization and operation of law offices. (3 cr. hrs.) (Fall).

Practice in a supervised work setting to use skills and knowledge acquired in law-related and other courses. Weekly on-campus seminar used for discussion of the practicum experiences and for assessment of learning. (3 cr. hrs.) (Spring). Prerequisites: Grade of C+ or better in PARA 1010, 2030, 2050, 2090, and instructor consent. Supervised work-learning experience/weekly on-campus seminar. Credit may not be received for this course and PARA 1962.

Laws regulating business transactions and relationships. Contracts, the Uniform Commercial Code, bankruptcy, agency, types of business organizations and their legal structure and operations, and tort liability as applied to business contexts. For paralegal in a legal office. (3 cr. hrs.) (Fall). Prerequisite: PARA 1010 or Program Coordinator consent. Credit may not be received for this course and BUSN 1231 and BUSN 1232. Lecture/form drafting.
