Investigation of issues in modern and contemporary art work and criticism, wherein an assessment of Modernist influences is followed by the examination of contemporary painting as a cross-disciplinary practice employing popular culture, "high art," theory,and new technology. Explores the relationship between Conceptualism, process, and content considering the changes in method, presentation, and theory from middle of last century to now. Futuristic artistic visions of black film, video, and cyberspace which create Afro-futurism. African American diasporic cultural retention in modern techno-culture; digital activism; and dreams of designing technology based on African aesthetic principles are addressed.
