A study of career development theories, and lifestyle and career decision making models. The application of the theories and models across the life span and populations utilizing occupational information, assessment instruments, and computer and Internet resources as career counseling tools will be addressed.

An in depth study of the issues that contribute to the development of a professional identity that leads to an understanding of all aspects of professional functioning, including history, roles, organizational structures, ethics, standards of practice, legal statutes, and credentialing.

A study of practices involved in planning, organizing, and coordinating a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, including principles and applications of needs assessment and program evaluation. Prerequisite: COUN 6013 and COUN 6063.

A study of the principles of group dynamics; group leadership styles; applications of helping relationship theories in group settings; group counseling methods and skills; and other group approaches. Prerequisite: PSY 6113.

A competency based course in counseling techniques with experimental emphasis including micro counseling and role playing. The student must receive a B or better tin order to proceed to COUN 6213. Must be accepted into the appropriate counseling program. Prerequisites, PSY 6113, maybe be taken concurrently.

Supervised practice in group and individual counseling and consultation with children, adolescents, and adults. Must earn a B or better to advance to COUN 6223, COUN 6233, and COUN 7483. Prerequisites, COUN 6203 and PSY 6113. Prerequisite that may be taken concurrently, COUN 6123.

Supervised practice including individual counseling, group work, developmental classroom guidance, consultation, and program coordination activities in an elementary school setting. Prerequisites: COUN 6063, COUN 6073, COUN 6213, and permission of screening committee. Student must earn a grade of "B" or better to advance to COUN 6233.

Prerequisites: COUN 6063, COUN 6073, COUN 6213, and permission of screening committee. Student must earn a grade of "B" or better to advance to COUN 6223.

A study of a rapidly growing and dynamic profession within the healthcare and disability management system. Students will apply a proactive, integrated, and coordinated process of assessment, planning, coordinating, and implementing rehabilitation counseling services for persons with acquired and congenital disabilities.

A comprehensive study of occupational theory, vocational evaluation, job analysis, work adjustment, and job development and placement as they apply to persons with congenital and acquired disabilities.
