1st Semester. Lect. 3, 3 credits. The principles of nutrition with emphasis on requirements during pregnancy and childhood, from infancy through pre-school age. Prerequisites: NUSC 0302; NUSC 0343.

1st Semester. Lect. 2, Lab 3, 3 credits. Students learn about community foods and nutrition programs relative to their background, authorizing legislation, target population, and nature and scope of services rendered. They also observe, participate and learn how to evaluate community nutrition programs. Prerequisite: NUSC 0302.

2nd Semester. Lect. 3, 3, credits. This course is designed mainly to acquaint the student with food and nutrition problems in developing countries. Nutrition problems, their causes, prevalence, treatment, and control are emphasized. Government policies, their impact on solving nutritional problems and available nutrition services at government and local levels are also discussed. Prerequisites: NUSC 0111.

1st Semester. Lect. 3, 3 credits. This course covers the scope of occupational therapy as a profession; the roles and functions of occupational therapists in the habilitation or rehabilitation of persons with various disorders and the prevention of dysfunctions; the roles of the occupational therapist as an interdisciplinary team member. Orientation and familiarization in occupational therapy evaluation and therapeutic intervention.

1st Semester. Lect. 2, Lab 2, 3 credits. This course provides a study of developmental theories and concepts related to occupational performance and behaviors during infancy, childhood and adolescence. Areas of development covered are neuromotor, sensory integrative, emotional, social and cognitive functions as affected by culture and lifestyle. Activities commonly used by children and adolescents and adapted by occupational therapist are studied, performed, presented and analyzed regarding their use as therapeutic modalities.

2.00 - 3.00 Credits
2nd Semester. Lect. 2, Lab 2, 3 credits. This course provides a study of development theories and concepts related to occupational performance and behaviors during adulthood from post adolescence through aging. Performance components included are lifestyles and role associated with cultural differences and function in motor, sensory integrative, cognitive, emotional and social adaptations. Activities commonly used by adults from post adolescence through aging and adapted by occupational therapists are studied, performed, presented and analyzed regarding their use as therapeutic modalities. Prerequisites: ART 0101, ART 0102, or 105, ART 0296, OCTH 0312.

1st Semester. Lect. 2, Lab 4, 4 credits. This course provides a survey of the Musculo-skeletal system (body mechanics and mechanical principles in human motion and classification of muscles according to their interaction in joint movement). Demonstrations in the inspection palpation and evaluation of muscle actions. Prerequisites: HLSC 0300 - Gross Anatomy and HLSC 0307 - Human Physiology.

2nd Semester. Lect. 4, 4 credits. This course provides a study of medical lectures, tapes and discussions used in the medical and therapeutic management of clinical conditions. Conditions reviewed include arthritis and other metabolic diseases; spinal cord injury; cardio and cerebral vascular disorders; respiratory, neurological and orthopedic condition; hand and peripheral nerve injuries; and other medical conditions commonly encountered in occupational therapy settings. Prerequisite: HLSC 0304 - Pathology.

2nd Semester Lect. 3, 3 credits. This course provides an analysis and discussion of the classification, etiology and treatment of the common forms of behavioral maladaption and psychosocial disorders. Prerequisite: PSYC 0567 - Abnormal Psychology.
