Unit cell; imperfections in atomic structures; relationship between micro structures and mechanical properties of materials; cold working, hot working, grain size strengthening, solid solution strengthening, and strain hardening; phase diagrams of basic alloys; engineering materials, properties and applications. Prerequisite: Junior Standing.

Manufacturing of fiber reinforced composite laminates; measurement of: tensile, compressive, flexure, interlaminar shear, and fracture toughness properties of composite materials, glass transition temperature, dynamic and storage moduli; X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope studies; statistical data analysis; design of experiment; report writing. Prerequisite: MENG 0316.

Calibration of orifice and venturi flow meters; measurement of fluid friction factor in pipe flow; measurement of minor head loss in pipe fittings-valves, elbows, and other pipe fittings; centrifugal pump performance characteristics; linear/radial heat conduction experiments; free and forced convection experiments; extended surface heat transfer experiment; unsteady heat transfer experiment; experiments with tubular heat exchanger; design of experiment; report writing. Prerequisite: MENG 0312, MENG 0313, MENG 0317; Corequisite: MENG 0414.

Prerequisites: MENG 0316.

Moist air properties and conditioning processes; space heating load and cooling load computations; comfort conditions and requirements; a comprehensive design project covering all of the above aspects is a required part of the course.
