2nd Semester. Lect. 3, 3 credits. This course, the second in a two-course sequence, covers the materials and methods related to concrete, cladding, thermal and moisture control, doors and windows and finishes. A historical overview of these materials is provided. Their role in sustainable design is presented including embodied energy and green building materials and processes. This two-course sequence concludes with an overview of the integration of materials into the building whole. The course content is presented in such a way as to be directly applied in the congruent ARCH 0302 design studio. Prerequisite: ARCH/CSMT 0331.

1st Semester. Lect. 3, 3 credits. This course, the first of a two-course sequence, covers thermal control systems, water and waste systems and fire protection systems. A historical overview of these systems is provided. They are presented in a context of sustainable design with an emphasis on hybrid active/passive design strategies. The course content is presented in such a way as to be directly applied in the congruent ARCH 0301 design studio. Prerequisite: ARCH Professional Program admittance (ARCH students only), MATH 0108 and PHYS 0306.

2nd Semester. Lect. 3, 3 credits. This course, the second in a two-course sequence, covers electricity, illumination, signal systems, transportation, and acoustics. A historical overview of these systems is provided. They are presented in a context of sustainable design with an emphasis on hybrid active/passive design strategies. This two-course sequence concludes with an overview of the integration of environmental control systems into the building whole. The course content is covered is presented in such a way as to be directly applied in the congruent ARCH 0302 design studio. Prerequisite: ARCH/CSMT 0341, MATH 0108 and PHYS 0306.

1st Semester. Lect. 3, 3 credits. This course, the first of a threecourse sequence, covers statics, mechanics and strengths of materials. An overview of structural systems is provided including framed and truss systems, shell and plate systems and funicular systems. The course content is presented in a context of sustainable design and in such a way as to be directly applied in the congruent ARCH 0301 design studio. Prerequisite: ARCH Professional Program admittance (ARCH students only), MATH 0108 and PHYS 0306.

2nd Semester. Lect. 3, 3 credits. This course, the second in a three-course sequence, provides in-depth coverage of framed and trussed systems. A historical overview of these systems is provided and they are presented in a context of sustainable design. The course content is presented in such a way as to be directly applied in the congruent ARCH 0302 design studio. Prerequisite: ARCH 0343/CSMT 0343, MATH 0108 and PHYS 0306.

1st Semester. Lect. 3, 3 credits. A survey of the history of the built environment from the Renaissance to the present. Western and Non-Western cultures will be covered. Prerequisite: ARCH 0252.

1st and 2nd Semesters. 1-6 credits. Special architectural related study courses based on faculty approval. Registration by approval of department head only.

6.00 - 12.00 Credits
1st Semester. Lab 12, 6 credits. This course introduces students to social issues in the built environment. Service learning projects will be included in which students perform design services for actual non-profit organizations. An emphasis will be placed on critical approaches to community revitalization which sustain diversity and place. Studio coursework will be coordinated with readings from the congruent Theory of Architecture course. Students will engage in collaborative design. Prerequisite: ARCH 0302.

6.00 - 12.00 Credits
2nd Semester. Lab 12, 6 credits. The critical exploration of social issues in architecture introduced in ARCH 0401 will be developed further. An emphasis will be made on place-making, historic preservation and sustainable approaches to community revitalization. Prerequisite: ARCH 0401.

3.00 Credits
2nd Semester. Lect. 3, 3 credits. The basic principles and procedures of the development of construction documents, namely working drawings and specifications, are covered. Students will be expected to utilize knowledge and skill acquired in previous design and technical courses. Students are introduced to building code analysis procedure and outline specifications. Prerequisite: ARCH. 0331, 0332 and 0302.
