    This course is designed to assist the student in increasing speed and accuracy using the touch method of keyboarding through classroom instruction and lab exercises. Emphasis is on the production of business documents such as memoranda, letters, reports, tables, and outlines from unarranged rough draft to acceptable format. Upon completion, the student should be able to demonstrate proficiency and an acceptable rate of speed and accuracy, as defined by the course syllabus, in the production of business documents.     This course introduces the history and development of the pulp and paper industry plus wood gathering through the wood yard operations. Topics include wood and fiber as a raw material resource, wood formation, properties of cellulose, plus some equipment and processes utilized during the various pulping operation. Upon completion, students should be able to discuss the history of the pulp and paper industry, collection and processing of wood, and the various methods of pulping technology. Prerequisites: None.     This course provides a basic orientation for operators in the chemical process industries and introduces many of the terms and ideas which will be encountered in the workplace. Topics include operator roles, responsibilities, expectations, terminology, liabilities, chemistry, physics, basic plant equipment, general product handling, flow diagrams, utility systems, plant organization, and the basics of process control. Upon completion, students should have a general knowledge of the tasks, responsibilities, skills and attitude necessary to be a chemical operator in a process industry. Prerequisites: None. (2-2-0)
