This course is a survey of words, terms, and descriptions commonly used in medical arts. Emphasis is placed on spelling, pronunciation, and meanings of prefixes, suffixes, and roots. No laboratory is required.

Included is an orientation of the human body, basic principles of chemistry, a study of cells and tissues, metabolism, joints, the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous systems, and the senses. This course covers the structure and function of the human body. Included is a study of basic nutrition, basic principles of water, electrolyte and acid-base balance, the endocrine, respiratory, digestive, excretory, cardiovascular, lymphatic, and reproductive systems. Dissection, histological studies, and physiology are featured in the laboratory experience. Prerequisite(s): 201 A 120-minute laboratory is required.

This course covers the basic structure and function of the human body. Emphasis is placed on the structure of the organ systems, cells, and tissues. This course includes historical perspectives, cell structure and function, microbial genetics, infectious diseases, immunology, distribution physiology, culture, identification, classification, and disease control of microorganisms. The laboratory experience includes microtechniques distribution, culture, identification, and control. Two 120-minute laboratories are required. PREREQUISITE: RDG 085 or appropriate reading placement score required NOTICE: It is recommended that the student have already completed at least four (4) semester hours of chemistry.

This course uses a system by system approach to discuss the manifestations, terminology, diagnosis, and mechanisms of disease. Human cadaver dissection is used to gain an in-depth knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. A 180-minute laboratory is required. Prerequisite(s): BIO 201 and permission of instructor.
