Three lectures and a two-hour laboratory per week. The laboratory emphasizes basic techniques in quantitative and qualitative analysis.     This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of how technology is utilized as a tool in a business environment. Students have hands-on experience working with the Internet and Microsoft Office. Students will develop competencies in information literacy in addition to competencies in word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), and presentation graphics (PowerPoint). The focus in the course is on gathering, processing and presenting information in a professional business manner using the Office applications. Lab Fee: $30. Offered every semester.

    Utilizing substantial group work, this course introduces students to the development and application of technology in modern business organizations. Students will apply information literacy competencies by learning to search for special topics/projects using multiple search engines, work productively in a team setting, research the technology marketplace and be able to identify the best components needed for computers and business. Students will also learn database management systems using Microsoft Access, networking, and other technologies through course readings, case studies, and group projects. Competencies to be developed include understanding, applying, and evaluating technology that is designed to define, acquire, organize, and present information that supports business operations and performance. The course serves as the foundation for other Business Technology courses. Prerequisite: CIS 103, placement by the computer assessment, or permission of instructor. Lab Fee: $30. Offered every semester.

    This course provides a broad technical description of computer hardware and system software. It is designed to provide a broad, integrated foundation of technical knowledge for systems design, system implementation, hardware and software procurement, and computing resource management by information systems personnel. Students will learn to solve technical problems alone and in other cases gain a sufficient knowledge to effectively communicate with technical specialists. Prerequisite: CIS 150. Lab Fee: $30. Offered evenings every spring semester and summer session.

    This course will provide the student with an introduction to local area networks (LANs). Students will explore various networking topologies and demonstrate an understanding of LAN design, media (wire/wireless), protocols, standards, network devices, software and hardware configuration and network operating systems. Prerequisite: CIS 150. Lab Fee: $30. Offered evenings every fall semester.

    This course provides Business Technology students with the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience by applying concepts learned in the classroom. Each student's independent study will consist of working on-campus two hours per week under the direction of the Business Department Chair and Course Instructor. In addition, bi-weekly meetings and a written project assignment will be required. A formal report and presentation from the student must be submitted upon completion of the Independent Study. Prerequisite: CIS 150, CIS 215, and CIS 254. Offered every spring semester.
