Communications 3 Credits This course advances the groundwork in theory and hands-on application to multi-camera, studio television production. The course consists of real world production projects on and off campus. Emphasis is on integrating and expanding the foundation of CMS 160 to planning and executing television programs within an ENG/EFP context. Using campus and community-based projects as models, the course develops and advances students’ techniques in pre-production, production, and post-production problem-solving. Labs provide students with an advanced working knowledge of broadcast equipment, facilities, industry standards, and sophisticated digital editing. Communications 3 Credits This course covers fundamental aspects of radio production, including the day to day work of DJs, production and broadcast of themed music and entertainment programming, news gathering and reporting, and the writing and digital editing of pre-recorded, on-air news stories and features. Communications 3 Credits A capstone, senior-year course in the Communications sequence, CMS 410 allows advanced-level Communications students to assume leadership roles in various media production projects on campus. Students serve as editors or assistant editors of campus publications, as directors or assistant directors of television programming and documentary film projects. In these roles, students are encouraged to confront communications field issues from the viewpoint of the media manager and/or producer. Topics include facility planning, project administration and team supervision, producer roles, audience analysis, talent selection, program scheduling, ethical conduct, liability, copyright, and regulatory concerns. Requirements and Prerequsites A minimum cgpa of 2.0, senior status, and approval of department chair is required. This course is only to Communications majors. This course is graded pass/fail. Computer Applications 1 Credit This concentrated five-week course is designed to help students acquire the basic skill of touch control of the computer keyboard. The primary goal is to develop a minimum competency in speed and accuracy so students can meet entrance requirements of other computer-related courses in the College curriculum.
