    Prerequisite: CS111 or CS112 or CS201 and sophomore standing. Develops expertise in the art and technology of giving effective presentations. Students develop the principles and skills for effective delivery of informa- tion and persuasive content and use the tools and tech- niques to create, present, and critique effective presenta- tions. Coverage includes presentation technology; the planning and design of effective presentations; deliv- ery techniques; and methods for managing the inter- personal aspects of a formal presentation.

    Prerequisite: IS251 or written permission of the department chair. An introduction to software development with an emphasis on business applications. Students are intro- duced to transaction processing systems and manage- ment support systems. Principles of program design, programming structures, data structures, program test- ing, and debugging are covered. Emphasis is placed on the implementation of programs with graphical user interfaces and event-driven code. No prior programming experience is required. (Fall only)

Students analyze, create a logical design, and imple- ment the physical design for a database information system-a cornerstone of e-business transactions. The course includes a database project from a current situ- ation at a real company that allows students to analyze the data needs of an organization, translate user require- ments into a database system, and implement the system using leading database management systems. (Fall only)

    Prerequisite: IS251 or written permission of the department chair. Explores the technologies underlying today's net- working, multimedia, e-business, and entertainment industries. This course balances technical and mana- gerial content while covering a broad range of topics, including the strategic role of telecommunications, net- working infrastructure, security, encryption, audio, video, intellectual property rights, and the history and politics of the telecommunications industries. (Spring only)

Encapsulates the ways that enterprises increasingly use electronic means to gain competitive advantage through real case studies about Chief Information Officer (CIO) issues. As a senior executive, the CIO cooperates with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to develop strategic uses of electronic resources. Manag- ers rely on enterprise resource planning systems to integrate financial and accounting data; data mining to guide customer relationship management decisions; and data warehouses to support knowledge manage- ment activities. Students develop a project using a cur- rent e-business technology. (Fall only)

    Prerequisite: IS251, IS352, IS353, and OM330 or written per- mission of the department chair. IS352, IS353, and OM330 may be taken concurrently. Prepares students to play a signifi- cant role in the development of information systems in organizations. Students learn to complete the phases of the systems development life cycle-feasibility, analysis, design, implementation, and maintenance-using struc- tured tools and techniques, project management, and oral presentations. Topics also include the roles of systems analysts, designers, and programmers, as well as global and ethical concerns in systems development. (Fall only)

    Prerequisite: IS352. Students develop dynamic e-business Web applications using Java Web technologies by build- ing on an introductory Java programming course. Stu- dents learn how to download, install, configure, and use open-source Web server, server-based source con- trol, and relational database technologies. Software tools are applied to build a dynamic, server-side e-business Web application using the model/view/controller paradigm. (Spring only)

    Prerequisite: IS251, IS353, IS355, IS358, and IS453 or written permission of the department chair. Students explore and apply effective use of the technologies associated with Web applications including HTML, Javascript, and .NET-all essential to modern enterprises. In this cap- stone course, students integrate all of the previous e-business courses, develop a business plan, and create a sophisticated Web-enabled senior project. (Spring only)

    Prerequisite: Senior standing in information systems and writ- ten permission of the chair. Students develop individual research in a specific area of mutual interest with a faculty member. The student must begin with a writ-345 ten plan for the project and conclude with a written research report. (Fall/Spring)

    Prerequisite: IS251, OM330, and senior standing or written permission of instructor. Students participate in individual study and group preparation and reflection while work- ing in an e-business position for an enterprise. Students work with an executive or information systems profes- sional, performing duties that are matched with Loyola coursework. Each internship is constructed by an infor- mation systems professor in conjunction with the on-site internship supervisor. Students work with the professor before engagement and at the end of the term. Only one internship course may count toward graduation requirements. (Fall/Spring) Law and Social Responsibility
