An introductory course that focuses on the total theatrical experience. It examines, through study and involvement, the creative artists such as the playwright, actors, director and designers, who bring the live production to the stage through the collaborative production process. This study will lead to a critical appreciation of theatre from an audience viewpoint. Prerequisite(s): Freshman/Sophomore, or permission of instructor.Every semester. Credit: 4

An introductory course in the basic operation of a computer assisted drafting system. Use of the commands and input methods will be stressed. 2-D drawings will be completed with emphasis on how they relate to Scenic, Lighting and Costume design in theatre. Once a year. Credit: 4

The use of exploratory-centered drama (rather than performance-centered drama) created by the participants. Used as an educational tool that exposes children to traditional theatre arts, it can also be used with any age-group as a means of exploring creativity. Frequently used in educational institutions as a unifying means for the teaching and learning of several other subjects like history, science, literature, writing, art, music, dance, etc. Prerequisite(s): One previous course in art, fine art, music, or theatre. Beginning with a series of practice exercises in body and vocal development, creating a score of actions for telling a story with a character, exploring script and character analysis, and refining observation and empathetic skills, the student actor will soon utilize these skills in developing roles in several short scenes and other presentations. This course will focus on methodologies for study and understanding the play as a literary genre in relationship to theatre. A variety of plays from Greek to the Modern era will be read and discussed applying the Aristotelian concept of play analysis. Every year. Credit: 4

This course will focus on the use of Improvisation as a method for developing acting skills. The course will cover the history and the various principles, techniques and specific improvisation exercises that can be employed in developing acting skills for character and scene development. The course is structured primarily as a workshop, however some classes will be discussion-centered. Every two years. Credit: 4
