The pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, and medical interventions for diseases are presented. Prerequisite: PTS111, BIO213. Co-requisite: PTS112, PTS117, BIO214.

    3 Credits This course presents the basic principles of biomechanics and anatomy in relation to human movement. Laboratory experiences are integrated throughout the course to provide functional application of movement principles. Students have the opportunity to practice and demonstrate competence in the data collection skills of goniometry and manual muscle testing. Prerequisite: PTS107, PTS111, BIO213. Co-requisite: PTS112, PTS116, BIO214.

    4 Credits During this first clinical education course, students practice basic data collection and physical therapy intervention skills in an affiliated clinical education center. The opportunity to integrate beginning-level professional behaviors into physical therapy practice is provided under the direct supervision of clinical instructors. Students maintain full-time schedules for five weeks at the conclusion of the second semester of the first year. Prerequisite: PTS111, PTS112, CPR certification.

    4 Credits This course is the third of a three-part sequence and provides an opportunity for students to apply the principles of data collection and physical therapy intervention techniques to neuromuscular and cardiopulmonary impairments. Laboratory experiences are integrated throughout the course to allow students to practice selected physical therapy skills and demonstrate competency. Prerequisite: PTS112, PTS120.

    3 Credits This course provides students with the opportunity to understand the structure and function of the nervous system over the life span. The pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, and medical interventions for diseases of the nervous system are presented. Prerequisite: PTS112, PTS116, BIO213, BIO214. Co-requisite: PTS211.

    6 Credits During this second clinical education course, students practice intermediate data collection and physical therapy intervention skills in an affiliated clinical education center. The opportunity to integrate developing-level professional behaviors into physical therapy practice is provided under the direct supervision of clinical instructors. Students maintain full-time schedules for seven weeks during the second semester of the second year. Prerequisite: PTS120, PTS211, CPR certification.

    6 Credits During this final clinical education course, students practice advanced data collection and physical therapy intervention skills in an affiliated clinical education center. Students are encouraged to explore areas of interest in specialty physical therapy practices. The opportunity to integrate entry level professional behaviors into physical therapy practice is provided under the direct supervision of clinical instructors. Students maintain full-time schedules for seven weeks during the second semester of the second year. Prerequisite: PTS218, CPR certification.
