Special emphasis is placed on pharmacology including drug classification, effects of medications on body systems, mathematics and dosage calculations, and the correct administration of parenteral, oral, topical, rectal, otic, and nasal medications. Develops a basic understanding of procedural and diagnostic coding through use of CPT and ICD-9 Clinical Modification coding systems. Students will learn to process insurance claim forms while adhering to legal restrictions, and develop an understanding of the specific requirements for managed care systems including "Maine specific" insurance carriers. (3 lec, 0 lab) Prerequisites: MDT 111, MDT 121

Students gain practical experience in providing clinical care to patients and performing administrative tasks in a medical practice. Students will be placed in a physician's office for training. Pre/Co-Requisites: All MAS coursework, approval of program director.

Provides instruction in decimals and fractions, ratio, proportions, percents, metric system, unit conversions, denominate number operations, basic algebraic concepts including operations with polynomials, solving simple equations, and transposing formulas. (3 lec, 0 lab) Prerequisite: Appropriate score on placement test.

Continues MAT 013, Applied Mathematics I, including systems of linear equations, factoring, quadratic equations, and selected topics from plane and solid geometry, with emphasis on perimeters, area, and volume, right-triangle trigonometry, oblique triangle trigonometry, graphing, and basic statistics. (3 lec, 0 lab) Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in MAT 013.

Introduces the student of the mathematics that have applications in various technologies. Students will focus upon connections between various fields of mathematics, and between mathematics and real world applications. Topics include set theory, number theory, combinatorics, measurement, geometry, algebra, trigonometry and basic statistics. Designed to address mathematics via the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics connections standard. Prerequisite: Appropriate score on placement test or equivalent.
