This research oriented studio course examines thoroughly the complex organizational strategies of architecturally distinguished buildings produced by significant architects. Exploration of analysis includes: regional, cultural, and historical influences; location, site, and contextual relationships, figure/ground, parti diagrams, circulation sequence, hierarchy in plan-section-fa"ade, form-mass-volume, transformation of formvolume, structural systems, etc. Analysis is researched and presented through graphic and model format. Selection of the projects for analysis may characterize the importance of building within the context of history, contributions to architectural education, function, style, form, and availability of information. Prerequisites: ARCH 205.

A series of projects involving the design of medium to large buildings in urban settings. Emphasis on urban/ community planning issues as they relate to architectural solutions, and integration of all building systems in design problem solving . Prerequisite: ARCH 305.

5.00 Credits
A two semester series of architectural and urban design exercises which facilitate faculty and student involvement with the provision of architectural research, planning design and development services to community-based organizations and individuals. Topics for consideration include: housing, facilities planning, urban/community development, afrocentric architecture, and related design and construction issues. Prerequisites: for Architecture 406, Architecture 305, 313, 317, 319, and 321. Architecture 406 for Architecture 407. Co-requisites: concurrent enrollment in Architecture 412-413. This course may be used to supplant either Architecture 404 or 405 or both.
