PREREQUISITES: none COURSE OBJECTIVES: To demonstrate basic water survival techniques and the proper use of life saving equipment. To complete and successfully pass the API certification examination (optional). TEXTBOOKS AND OTHER MATERIALS: ATTENDANCE POLICY: All students are to complete courses as scheduled. Students will not be allowed to "make up" time in any course. Because of Coast Guard requirements concerning attendance, students who cannot complete a course within the scheduled timeframe, will be required to re-schedule to take the entire course. EVALUATION AND GRADING: Evaluation of student's performance demonstrations will be determined pass or fail by the instructor. Only those students that successfully complete the practical demonstrations will receive a completion certificate. The student will be instructed in the proper lifesaving techniques to help themselves and their shipmates when needed. A Modular Egress Training Simulator (METS) will be used to instruct the student of proper procedures to prepare and escape a helicopter ditching. Students will have the option to acquire API (American Petroleum Institute) certification by completing and successfully passing the API examination. PREREQUISITES: None COURSE OBJECTIVES: To demonstrate basic water survival techniques and the proper use of life saving equipment. The student will demonstrate proper techniques for escaping a helicopter ditching. Escapes will include surface, underwater, and underwater with full inversion. To complete and successfully pass the API certification examination (optional). This course provides the required training. Completers receive a certificate - Ratings Forming Part of a Engineering Watch. PREREQUISITES: None COURSE OBJECTIVES: The student will cover and carry out a watch routine appropriate to the duties of an RFPEW and understand orders and be understood in matters relevant to watchkeeping duties. PREREQUISITES: None COURSE OBJECTIVES: The practical competencies that are to be assessed as part of the 'at sea" training phase of the RFPNW program include: Use of magnetic and gyro-compasses. Respond to standard rudder orders (hard right or left: ease the rudder: midships; shift your rudder; meet her; steady as she goes; seer on the range). Change over form automatic to hand steering. Certain responsibilities of the lookout (reporting sounds, lights, and objects). Watch procedures that contribute to a safe watch (relief, maintenance and hand over). It provides an individual with a technique for making optimum use of all available resources to conduct bridge operations in a safe and efficient manner. PREREQUISITES: None COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this More Code/Flashing Light course a student shall be able to receive and send messages following the procedures and format set forth in the International Code of Signals, publication HO 102. The student will be aware of obligations under United States Coast Guard regulations concerning safety and protection of the marine environment, and will be able to take the practical measures necessary to meet those obligations. The curriculum or this course is based on knowledge requirements for Visual Communications, for vessels of 200 gross ton (500 gross ton ITC) up to vessels of unlimited tonnage as per 46 CFR 10.217, 46 CFR 10.401 and STCW Code Table A-II/1.
