Also, students should become familiar with assisting with bronchoscopy and a working knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring. PREREQUISITES: RSCI 1131 and RCPS 2082 COURSE OBJECTIVES: Recommend changes in therapeutic plan to achieve adequate ventilation and oxygenation. Assemble, check for proper ventilator function, and identify malfunctions of ventilators, including taking corrective actions. Document monitoring of ventilator therapy properly. Apply computer technology to patient management, which includes ventilator waveform analysis. Monitor mean airway pressure, adjust and check alarm systems, measure tidal volume, respiratory rate, airway pressures, inspiratory to expiratory ratio, and maximum inspiratory pressure. Demonstrate the correct technique to initiate ventilator support. Perform proper strategies to teach a child and adult patient as assigned by instructor. PREREQUISITES: RCPS 2071, RCPS 2132 COURSE OBJECTIVES: Test for the circuit for leaks and eliminate leaks. Giving patient scenarios, determine the most appropriate modes of ventilation, tidal volume, respiratory rate, FiO2, peak flow rate or percent, inspiratory time, I:E ratio, pressure adjuncts, and initiate ventilation using critical care and home care ventilators. Giving the parameters selected in the scenarios, practice documentation skills required for a patient-ventilator system check and appropriately set the alarms. Make recommendations and modifications to the ventilator settings based on patient assessment and data collection. Accurately perform arterial blood gas punctures. Simulate obtaining blood gas samples from arterial/umbilical lines or capillary stick. Change a ventilator circuit within 1. 5 minutes without causing patient distress. Present a case study dealing with hemodynamically compromised patient. Practice gathering weaning parameters using a laboratory partner; and identify if partner is ready to be extubated.
