Continued development of painting skills, both from observation-still life, city and landscape-and from ideas via poetry, collage, and abstraction. Composition as an intuitive process and the development of a personal painting language will be stressed. Masters of history painting through the avant-garde, modernism and postmodernism explored, involving some reading and discussion. Offered each semester.     ARTV 2161. Permission of Instructor required. Arts course (A). This course will involve the student in the entire process of proposing, selecting, creating, and installing, artworks (paintings) commissioned for specific public spaces. Students will meet with selected representatives of designated public spaces, create and present proposals for site specific art works, produce the proposed art works chosen to be appropriate to the site, and install and document the completed project. Students will study the history of commissioned public art works, with emphasis on American Art, including works produced under the W.P.A., New Jersey's Arts Inclusion Program, and the Federal General Services Administration. Field trips will be taken to sites in New Jersey, as well as to art institutions in New York and Philadelphia. Faculty: M.     ARTV 2920, ARTV 2265 with a grade of C or better. Arts course (A). Exploration of the interactive media and visual perception using Flash. Technical overview of introductory level graphic tools to create an animation, basic to intermediate level actionscript is also covered to produce a basic Flash game and web site. Conceptualizing visual ideas, researching, planning, navigation interface, form and function of typography to achieve effective communications to create an interactive media presentation is also a focus of this course. Students enrolled in this course will produce a portfolio of images emphasizing a specific topic, genre or thematic approach. This course will introduce advanced black and white printing (exhibition quality), toners, print and film manipulation techniques, film processing controls, non-silver printing techniques, computer based negatives or film positives, and photo-based printmaking techniques.     ARTV 2920 and ARTV 2121. Arts course. (A) During the semester, students will work with non-silver and other non-traditional methods of making photographic prints. Techniques will include but are not limited to cyanotype, gum prints, Van Dyke, photo-lithography, photo-transfer, etc. This class also requires the use of computer-based imaging for editing, manipulating and producing digital negatives used in the various processes.     ARTV 2121and ARTV 2920. Arts course. (A) This course uses digital inkjet prints for producing images that are based on the traditions of black and white photography yet leverage the capabilities of computer based images. During the semester students will be introduced to the range of tools and techniques used to produce high quality monochrome prints on the inkjet printer. Students will also work on producing a cohesive semester long project. Faculty: W.     Formerly ARTV 3765; Not open to those with credit for ARTV 3765. Prerequisite: ARTV 1161, ARTV 1162, ARTV 2167, ARTV 2920. Arts course (A). This course will offer an investigation of printmaking techniques not taught in Printmaking I. Examples of possible topics include the following: relief printing (woodcut and linoleum cuts), intaglio (acid etching), and lithography. Students will be encouraged to use their Drawing I and Two-Dimensional Design experience for concepts and imagery. Printmaking I or Printmaking II will fulfill this requirement.     ARTV 2270 and ARTV 2265 with a grade of C or better. Arts course (A). Advanced communications problem-solving in publication, promotion, and information design. Practical experience through solution of individual projects encountered in professional graphic design. The creative design concept, layouts, and roughs for presentation and production skills are developed and focused in each of the problems. Production procedures, use of the computer as a design tool, using software such as InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Applications of serial imagery are also explored. Faculty: M.
