Creation of animated sequences using the computer and multimedia software such as Flash, as well as relevant aspects of traditional film animation. Emphasis will be placed on students' practical comprehension of animation principles, computer software and design for interactivity and their relationship to each other, and their use in the communication of content and/or aesthetic through the frame-by-frame sequencing of movement and sound. This course is an introduction to various traditional and modern sculptural techniques (i.e. welding, stone and wood carving and fabrication, figure modeling, plaster casting, with an emphasis on scale and proportion). Problem-solving methods, verbal/visual conceptual skills, technique, and craft are developed through a series of problems that parallel the professional world.     Arts course (A). This course examines the variety of art forms created in Africa, Asia, and Central America. We will look at the types of art created by each culture, including painting, sculpture, architecture, and ceremonial objects, as well as the context in which the objects were used. Our focus will usually be on the arts of Africa, China or Japan, and Pre-Columbian Mexico, with a third of the semester devoted to each, although the content of the course may vary from year to year.     ARTV 2121. Not open to freshmen. Arts course (A). This course is an introduction to color photography, color theory, analog color printing, and digital printing. The objectives for the term include the creation of effect photographic images, control of color materials, an introduction to relevant critical theory, and the use of digital imaging techniques.
