    This course focuses on the examination and application of concepts and quantitative methods that facilitate the investigation of contemporary research in the field of Public Health. Specifically, the course will be geared towards students obtaining the following skills: 1). Comprehension of the goals and basic steps of research; 2). Realization that designing a research project involves a series of choices and the appreciation of the consequences of these choices; 3). Developing a set of criteria for evaluating the value of research questions, the validity of the claims, the generalization of the results, and the ethical considerations involved in conducting and reporting research; 4). Appreciating the strengths and limitations of quantitative research methodologies; and 5). Completion of all steps of a simple research project. Emphasis is placed on students gaining experience in data collection and using the computer as a research tool. Faculty: T.     Permission of Instructor required. Field experience with a faculty-approved health program or organization is required in the senior year. Students will work with health professionals/specialists and apply the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom within a work setting. One credit is awarded for every 50 clock hours for a maximum of 6 credits. Final student evaluation will be based on a completed course project as negotiated with the instructor prior to the start of the internship, a daily log of contact hours and activities, site supervisor evaluation, and other assignments as required by the instructor. At least one term prior to the term in which the student intends to register for the internship, the student should contact the instructor for guidance in selecting an internship site. Faculty: E. Students will work with health professionals/specialists and will apply in the work setting what they have learned in the classroom. Students will receive an evaluation by their sponsors, maintain a daily log of contact hours and activities, and write a 5-7 page reaction paper comparing academic learning with their internship experience.
