Enables dental hygiene students to recognize and differentiate periodontal health from disease, formulate appropriate treatment plans, select appropriate adjunctive therapies, and recognize the role of the dental hygienist as a periodontal co-therapist in initial periodontal therapy and maintenance. Also includes periodontal surgery, antibiotics, and antimicrobial agents, periodontal dressing, and sutures.
