An in-depth examination of conducting technique and score study in preparation for conducting instrumental ensembles, including proper beat patterns, cueing, expression, and score preparation. The music styles of the five major compositional periods will also be discussed, particularly in regard to their application in conducting. Teaching methods and materials appropriate for 7-12 classrooms will be included. A study of the uses of instrumentation and instrumental textures as identified by the use of instruments in a variety of combinations is included. A practicum in conjunction with the Teacher Education Department will provide students the opportunity for hands-on conducting and micro teaching in a classroom setting. Prerequisite: MU 372. Spring semester.
