A studio course that surveys the history of graphic design from its origins to the late 20th century with emphasis on what philosophies lay behind the work of each period. After gaining a general overview of graphic design history, students will be able to target later projects to historical periods and designers that resonate with their own interests. In conclusion, students will be required to synthesize and defend an answer to the question, "What is good design?" Prerequisites: AR 235-G and AR 241-G. Fall semester 2008 andSpring semester 2010.
