3 credit hours Students make clinical rounds with Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP) and physicians. Activities are directed so that students gain familiarity with initiating respiratory therapy in a variety of adult-child acute care and rehabilitation settings. Emphasis is placed on professional clinical practice guidelines for basic therapies. Students will practice safe operation of equipment, and appropriate technology selection for desired therapeutic effects. Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Respiratory Therapy Program, or permission of the instructor.

3 credit hours This course explores physical and physiological topics related to sleep and sleep disorders in an introductory approach. Normal sleep, sleep disorders, sleep assessments, and sleep remedies are studied. The course is preparatory for respiratory therapy students, and health care providers who will screen, test, treat, and support clients with sleep disorders. The course is informative for general students interested in sleep topics. The course provides resources and support for participants who are personally dealing with sleep disorders. Prerequisite(s): Basic Computer Skills.

3 credit hours This course introduces the student to topics related to the role of an advanced level Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP). This lecture oriented class covers health care organizations and structures, health care communications, medical ethics, medical-legal documentation, medical terms and symbols. Individuals in this class investigate Respiratory Therapy career options and learn the areas of specialization within Respiratory Care. In addition, students learn the introductory methods of reviewing professional literature, evaluating patient records, compiling patient results, and appraising other members of the health care team of patient status. Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Respiratory Therapy RRT Accelerated Track, or permission of the instructor.

3 credit hours Topically, the class includes Gas Physics, Oxygen Therapy, Microbiology applications and Pulmonary Hygiene. Students identify clinical applications of technical data, and review physiology effects of Respiratory Therapy. Students focus on therapeutic indications, contraindications, and hazards in this lecture/lab course. Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Respiratory Therapy Accelerated RRT Track, or permission of the instructor.

4 credit hours In this applications oriented class, students put lecture content and lab competencies to use on clinical rounds. Students become familiar with cardiopulmonary diseases and diagnostic symptoms. Bedside testing, patient monitoring, and pharmacologic interventions are key components of this course. Prerequisite: Admission to the Respiratory Therapy RRT accelerated track, or permission of the instructor.

2 credit hours Technical devices used in respiratory care are covered in this lecture class. Students become familiar with equipment used to deliver high flow oxygen, positive pressure, and pulmonary hygiene. Operation of analyzers, manometers, and other respiratory measuring devices are included. Adult and pediatric applications are discussed. Contact Hrs: Lecture Hours-32. 3 credit hours Students learn to identify signs and symptoms of respiratory distress and to respond with appropriate technical intervention. Theory and application of physical inspection, airway care, positive pressure breathing, and pulmonary hygiene are covered in this lecture/lab class. Prerequisite: RSCR-0124, Technical Interventions I or RSCR-0224, Therapeutic Interventions I, or permission of the instructor.

4 credit hours Students become familiar with respiratory tests used to identify a variety of lung problems. Methods to determine the severity of breathing and airway conditions are discussed. Respiratory care techniques to measure airway flow rates, lung volumes, blood gas values, and cardiopulmonary lab values are studied. Prerequisite: RSCR-0125, Cardiopulmonary Care I, or permission of the instructor.

4.00 Credits
4 credit hours In this clinically focused class, students apply techniques for performing positive pressure breathing, pulmonary hygiene, airway maintenance, and collection of clinical data. Additionally, students require skills for initiating respiratory care in emergent situations. Prerequisite: RSCR-0129, Technician Clinical Practice I or RSCR-0229, Therapist Clinical Practice I.
