3 hours credit The interaction of the individual with the social and cultural environment is the focus of this course. A variety of topics, such as attitude formation, the influence of the group on the individual, and the like, are considered in relation to such continuing social problems as prejudice, aggression, social deviance, and conformity. This course provides an introduction to major concepts, theories, and research findings in social psychology. Prerequisite: Psychology, PSYC-0101.

3 hours credit This course will provide but not be limited to providing the student with the experience of reviewing a variety of common disorders encountered in an addiction treatment center. Observing and learning the importance of application of psychological principles in mental health centers. An enhancement of student understanding of mental disorders and extend the students understanding of Co-occurring conditions in the treatment of substance related disorders. Prerequisites: Social Psychology, PSYC-0214 and consent of the instructor; OR Counseling the Alcoholic and Drug Abuser II, ADCN- 0206 and consent of the instructor.

1-3 hours credit This course will provide the student with the experience of observing and participation in the education of emotionally disturbed, mildly retarded, or learning disabled children. Students gain practical experience working with disturbed children through volunteer work at an approved school or institution. Students earn one hour of credit for each 20 hours of work completed. Prerequisites: PSYC-0101, Psychology, and PSYC-0202, Child Development and consent of instructor.

3 hours credit Introduction to College Reading Skills is designed to provide students with opportunities to improve understanding of written materials, reading comprehension strategies, and writing skills. The focus of this course will be on reading comprehension strategies such as vocabulary development, main idea/supportive detail comprehension, and written communications. This is the first class in a sequence of two reading classes. Prerequisite: Assessment score of 0-54 on the Accuplacer test as administered by the KCKCC Academic Resource Center.

3 hours credit College Reading Strategies is designed for students to further develop general reading skills and college level reading strategies with an emphasis on higher levels of reading with vocabulary, comprehension, critical thinking and writing. Prerequisite: Completion of READ-0091 or assessment score of 55-74 on the Accuplacer test as administered by the KCKCC Academic Resource Center.

3 credit hours This course introduces the student to topics related to the role of an entry level Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP). This discussion oriented class covers health care organizations and structures, health care communications, medical ethics, medical-legal documentation, medical terms and symbols. Students will learn to use patient records, compile patient records, and report technical data to other members of the health care team. Prerequisite: Working on respiratory therapy program co-requisites. 220

3 credit hours Topically, the class includes Gas Physics, Oxygen Therapy, Microbiology applications and Pulmonary Hygiene. Students identify clinical applications of technical data, and review physiology effects of Respiratory Therapy. Students focus on therapeutic indications, contraindications, and hazards in this Lecture/Lab course. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the Respiratory Therapy Program, or permission of the instructor.

4 credit hours In this applications oriented class, students put lecture content and lab competencies to use on clinical rounds. Students become familiar with cardiopulmonary diseases and diagnostic symptoms. Bedside testing, patient monitoring, and pharmacologic interventions are key components of this course. Prerequisites: Admission to the Respiratory Therapy program, or permission of the instructor.
