3 hours credit Music Literature I is intended for the music major who plans to transfer to a four-year institution. It is designed to introduce student to music literature through listening, discussion, and score study. Style periods covered include the Baroque through the Twentieth Century. 3 hours credit An introduction to procedures and skills on the Macintosh computer, particularly the Macintosh operating system and software, including general computing (word processing and other office applications), music sequencing, music notation, and other MIDI applications. Students will create pieces of music using sequencing software, music scores using notation software, and learn the function and operation of Mac OS and the components found in a basic MIDI studio.

3 hours credit An introduction to more advanced skills of music computing and computer based music production. Expanding on skills learned in MUSC-0106, students will study aspects of digital audio editing and creative sound design, digital audio sequencing software, computer based music production techniques, MIDI and audio studio setup with particular emphasis on the equipment used in the advanced MIDI and audio studio. Prerequisite: Music Applications for Computer, MUSC-0106.

3 hours credit Designed for two groups of students, Fundamentals of Music is for non-music majors interested in learning the basics of reading and playing music or for music majors lacking sufficient background to successfully complete Music Theory I. Course work covers fundamentals of music notation, piano keyboard knowledge, and writing basic notes, symbols, scales, chords, and intervals.

4 hours credit The purpose of this course is to provide the student with a thorough introduction to the elements of music, such as intervals, scales, and chords, as well as an introduction to diatonic harmony and part writing, and elements of musicianship including sightsinging, dictation, rhythm, and keyboard skills.

4 hours credit The purpose of this course is to continue the studies begun in Music Theory I. This course will complete the study of diatonic harmony. Topics covered will include inversions and seventh chords, non-harmonic tones, and diatonic modulation, and elements of musicianship including sightsinging, dictation, rhythm, and keyboard skills. Prerequisite: Music Theory I, MUSC-0111.

1 hour credit The instrumental ensembles focus on small group performance. This class is open to brass and woodwind players, percussionists and string players. Ensembles will be divided up based on ability level. The ensembles rehearse 2 or 3 times per week and perform on campus and around the metropolitan area.

1 hour credit Concert Band is open to any college student with prior experience in instrumental music organizations. All types of band literature are studied and rehearsed: concerts are performed. Prerequisite: Instrumental Experience.

1 hour credit The jazz band is open to instrumentalists who play woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Traditional big band repertoire is studied and performed. This group performs several concerts per semester. Prerequisite: Consent of the instructor.

1 hour credit String Orchestra is open to any student with string experience. All styles of string orchestra literature are studied and rehearsed. Prerequisite: Violin, Viola, Cello, or Bass experience.
