3 hours credit This course prepares non-Spanish-speaking future nurses to provide essential basic medical care to Spanish-speaking patients. In addition, exposed students to trans-cultural information related to their future career and the Hispanic culture. This course will prepare students to obtain essential patient information, vital signs, in addition to perform routing nursing procedures. Emphasis is placed on enhancing the cultural understanding and the quality of patient care. This course does not meet the foreign language requirements.

3 hours credit Spanish for School Administrators, Teachers (0-12), and Support Staff is a comprehensive language course design to provide functional Spanish language skills for school personnel who have contact with Spanish speaking students, parents, and visitors. It also includes extensive training for non-Spanish speaking classroom teachers who have Spanish speaking children or young adults in their classroom. In addition, it includes a cross-cultural component with emphasis on family issues, Hispanic etiquette, literacy, cultural expectations, and the Latin American educational system. No prior knowledge of Spanish is necessary.

2 hours credit This is a comprehensive program designed to provide functional Spanish language skills for child care facility personnel who have contact with Spanish-speaking parents and children. The program utilizes phonetic encoding to address the most important commands, and phrases critical to child care facilities. This course will include a cross-cultural component with emphasis on family issues. No prior knowledge of Spanish is necessary.

3 hours credit This course does not meet the foreign language requirements. Conversational Arabic is designed for students who want to acquire a speaking knowledge of the language with the focus on communication, comprehension, and cultural information about the Arabic-speaking world and its people. It is very helpful for those interested in traveling to an Arabic-speaking country, people who deal with the Arabic-speaking community or those who want to enrich themselves by learning a foreign language.

5 hours credit Arabic I is the first semester of Arabic for students with little or no previous instruction in Arabic. This course enables students to attain a basic competency in all language skills: speaking, listening, reading, writing, and culture.

5 hours credit The Arabic II curriculum emphasizes the combination of conversation, reading, writing, grammar, and culture. Prerequisite: LANG-0161, Arabic I.

3 hours credit The study of grammar is reviewed and continued. Extensive conversational drills are included and some directed composition based on reading of French texts is required. Prerequisite: French II, LANG-0102 or consent of the instructor.

3 hours credit This course is a continuation of French III, LANG-0203. Prerequisite: French III, LANG-0203 or consent of the instructor.

3 hours credit Reading and discussion of selected works of modern German literature are emphasized, with grammatical analysis and practice. Computer-assisted instruction and telecourse materials are used. Historical and contemporary aspects of German culture and philosophy are discussed. Prerequisite: German II, LANG-0122 or consent of the instructor.

3 hours credit German IV examines readings of modern prose along with intensive practice in German composition and conversation. Computerized instructional techniques are utilized and a German language telecourse is used. Students discuss the promise and paradoxes of German Philosophy. Prerequisite: German III, LANG-0223 or consent of the instructor.
