1 hour credit Honors Tutorial III is the fourth, and final, in a sequence of core courses for students seeking Honors Scholar distinction and is intended to emphasize self-directed and collaborative learning while students design and implement projects for an audience outside the classroom. This course serves as the capstone course for the Honors Education Program and will include Program post-assessments and fulfillment of the Portfolio component students began in Honors Tutorial I. Projects will focus on the concept of service to local, national or global communities as related to the current Phi Theta Kappa Honors Study Topic. Prerequisite: Admission to the Honors Education Program and permission of the Director of Honors Education Program.

3 hours credit The Leadership Studies course provides an opportunity to explore classical and contemporary theories of leadership. Students will practice a scholarly examination of leadership theory, philosophies of leadership, and moral and ethical responsibilities related to leadership through experiential exercises, films and readings. Prerequisite: Completion of Honors Seminar I.

1 hour credit This course will include topics designed to acquaint the student with the campus community, classroom expectations, counseling services, testing, and other experiences incidental to a successful adjustment to college life. Also covered are study skills, note taking, stress and fitness, and human relationships. Strategies for Academic Excellence/Lifelong Living is a required course for all freshmen except those who meet one of the six exemptions listed in the KCKCC catalog. Prerequisite: Completed application to enroll at KCKCC.

Students who have not completed the course with a grade of "C" or better will be told when they have theirdegree check-which usually occurs during the semester the students expects to graduate-that they will not be allowed to graduate until the course has been satisfactorily completed. Prerequisite: Completed application to enroll at KCKCC and completed Accuplacer.

2 hours credit This course will emphasize personal and career growth and development especially for women by exploring the family of origin, developing insight and self-confidence, and making assertive life choices. We will focus on the individual woman's ability to find answers from within herself, and the development of the class as a group.

3 hours credit Structured to give students a basic foundation in the language of signs, the course examines the history of signs, linguistic principles, finger spelling and manual alphabet, and a vocabulary of at least 364 signs.

3 hours credit Students increase the vocabulary acquired in the Basic Sign Language course. They improve their skills in expressive and receptive finger spelling, and increase their knowledge of the culture in the community that uses sign language. Prerequisite: Basic Sign Language, HUDV-0263 or consent of the instructor.

3 hours credit This course presents accurate information about human sexuality to help students develop understanding of their own and other's sexual expression and values. Topics include anatomy and physiology, sexuality across the life cycle, social/ cultural influences, fertility issues, sexually transmitted diseases including AIDS, variations in orientation and expression, values and ethics, and current social issues.

3 hours credit This course seeks to enhance the student's understanding and appreciation of world civilization and the humanities through an exploration of painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, philosophy, and music. Students will examine the major cultural achievements of both Eastern and Western civilizations within the context of relevant historical events from the Paleolithic period to the present day.

3 hours credit This course will acquaint students with the arts and ideas of the world's major civilizations from the Renaissance to the modern age. The approach will be interdisciplinary, covering the artistic values embodied in painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, theatre, music, and dance as they have emerged out of their historical contexts. In addition to providing the fundamental principles, methodologies, and theories used in the study of the humanities, the course aims to enhance students' understanding of the contemporary world.
