1.00 Credits
1 hour credit Designed to help students develop stress-coping skills, this course presents an introduction to biofeedback instruments, information on how to deal with stress, and personal experience training in tension reduction. Students focus on relaxation techniques, improving self-control and concentration, and overcoming test anxiety and poor memory retention. Grading in this course is on pass-no credit basis only.
-
1.00 Credits
1 hour credit A continuation of autogenic training on a variety of biofeedback instruments is offered in this course. Practice in progressive relaxation to develop deeper levels of relaxation and altered states of consciousness is given. Students receive information on the philosophy of biofeedback, muscle feedback training, brain rhythm training, biofeedback equipment, and basic biofeedback physiology. Grading in this course in on a pass-no credit basis only. Prerequisite: Biofeedback I, BIOL-0111.
-
3.00 Credits
3 hours credit The General Pharmacology course covers the mechanisms of action, sites of action, and side effects of drugs. Emphasis will be placed on toxic signs, symptoms of adverse drug reactions, and various classes of drugs. Prerequisite: Basic computer skills are necessary. Please review the online course requirements.
-
4.00 Credits
4 hours credit This course is an introduction to the structural organization and functional process of living systems. The basic concepts of biology at the cellular, organ, system, and population levels are emphasized. Genetics and mammal systems are taught as well. Included are laboratories using photomicrographs, simulated blood typing, osmosis and diffusion, a pulse rate and fish homeostasis, taste receptor, and genetics lab exercises. Note: Students may not receive credit for both BIOL-0119 and BIOL-0121
-
1.00 Credits
1 hour credit This course will study the use of prefixes, suffixes and root words to build a vocabulary for medical personnel. The student begins by identifling roots, suffixes and prefixes of medical terminology, and then progresses by studying related medical terms of the body system (skin, skeleton, muscle, blood & lymph, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, & urinary systems). The students will explore how these terms relate to the general anatomy of the body. There are no onground meetings for this course.
-
5.00 Credits
5 hours credit General Biology introduces fundamental biological principles characteristic of all living things. Lecture and laboratory work will review the scientific method (experimental and observational science), levels of organization and emergent properties of life, molecular and cell biology, bioenergetics, reproduction, genetics, evolution and ecology. A prior course in Chemistry is recommended.
-
3.00 Credits
3 hours credit In this course, emphasis is placed upon human anatomical and physiological systems, evolution, genetics and embryology, environmental effects on human growth and development, and recent developments in biological research. No laboratory is required. The Living Body is not open to students who have passed BIOL-0121.
-
4.00 Credits
4 hours credit In this course, emphasis is placed upon human anatomical and physiological systems, evolution, genetics and embryology, environmental effects on human growth and development, and recent developments in biological research. In addition to lecture, this course requires completion of one, 2-hour laboratory each week. Human Biology is not open to students who have passed BIOL-0121.
-
1.00 Credits
1 hour credit This course is intended for all students interested in investigating critical issues in contemporary biological science. The course will be concerned with vital issues of our times. Students will have the opportunity to do independent research and to discuss solutions to many of the important problems of our day. They will learn the value of research in problem solving on a firsthand basis and the far reaching effect that Science can have on all of us.
