3 hours credit Beginning ESL Reading I includes instruction on the use of vocabulary, idioms, dictionary skills, comprehension, and study skills for beginning level non-native readers and writers of English. Presented in a thematic context, students explore different aspects of the American experience.

Instruction includes use of vocabulary, idioms, dictionary skills, comprehension, and study skills for beginning level nonnative readers and writers of English. Presented in a thematic context, students explore different aspects of the American experience. Prerequisite: Beginning ESL Reading I, ESOL- 0062 or equivalent.

4 hours credit Beginning ESL Writing/Grammar I is designed to provide practice in skills which can begin to bridge the gap between the study of English as a Second Language and the effective use of English in the college classroom. The course includes integrated units of study in listening comprehension, pronunciation, grammar, writing, reading, and vocabulary for beginning level ESL students.

4 hours credit Beginning ESL Writing/Grammar II is a continuation of Beginning ESL Writing/Grammar I and is designed to provide further practice in skills which can begin to bridge the gap between the study of English as a second language and the effective use of English in the college classroom. The course includes continued study in listening, writing, reading, and vocabulary for beginning level ESL students. Prerequisite: Beginning ESL Writing/Grammar I, ESOL-0064 or equivalent.

3 hours credit Intermediate ESL Listening/Speaking I is designed for students who have previously studied English and have basic knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, but who lack the skills and confidence to converse fluently. Activities include listening, speaking, and communicative exercises for pairs and small groups, as well as a major individual presentation. Prerequisite: Beginning ESL Listening/Speaking II, ESOL- 0061 or equivalent.

3 hours credit Intermediate ESL Listening/Speaking II is a continuation of Intermediate ESL Listening/Speaking I designed for students who have previously studied English and have basic knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, but need to further develop communicative abilities for both formal and informal settings. Activities include listening, speaking, and communicative exercises for pairs and small groups, as well as three major individual presentations. Prerequisite: Intermediate ESL Listening/Speaking I, ESOL-0066 or equivalent.
