3 hours credit Vehicle Stops and Special Tactical Situations deals with positive tactics police officers may employ on the street to effectively use their own firearms to defeat those of assailants. This course is devoted exclusively to understanding and mastering techniques that work for survival in real life situations. Note: Only police recruits are eligible to take this course.

3 hours credit The Firearms Training and Safety course is designed to present the student with the principles and fundamentals of the basic operation of the Glock 17 & 19, 9 mm Semi-automatic pistol as well as the Remington 870 pump shotgun. Special attention will be given to safety liabilities as well as cleaning and care. Note: Only police recruits are eligible to take this course.

3 hours credit Students examine the principles, functions, and activities of police organization and administration, including planning and research, public relations, personnel and training, inspection and control, and policy formulation. Note: This course is offered online and in the classroom.

3 hours credit This overview of institutional corrections and the theory of penology exposes students to methods of probation and parole, services available to the offender after leaving an institution, correctional reform, and the relationship between institutional and field techniques. Prerequisite: Introduction to Corrections, CRJS-0102, or approval of instructor.

3 hours credit Students are taught the history and development of probation and parole and will examine issues in rehabilitation, legal aspects of parole and probation, supervision theory and techniques, and the relationship of probation and parole to other parts of the criminal justice system. Prerequisite: Introduction to Corrections, CRJS-0102.

3 hours credit Scientific aspects of criminal investigation are emphasized, including recording the crime scene; collection, preservation, and examination of evidence; techniques of criminal investigation; and examination of the capabilities and limitations of the advanced police science laboratory. Footnote: This course is generally offered only during the fall semester. This course is also offered online or in the classroom.

3 hours credit An introduction to criminal investigation procedures, the course includes theory of an investigation, case preparation, specific techniques for selected offenses, questioning of witnesses and suspects, and problems in criminal investigation. Prerequisite: Criminal Investigation I, CRJS-0201 or consent of the instructor.

3 hours credit This course provides a comprehensive overview of the classification and components of crimes, with particular emphasis on common and Kansas criminal law. The student will be provided basic theories of substantive criminal law. The student will develop the ability to identify crimes and to ascertain lesser charges that may be appropriate. Emphasis will be place on using examples based on actual court cases. The nature, sources and typed of criminal law will be examined. Note: This course is generally only offered in the Fall semester.

3 hours credit This course acquaints the students with the principles, duties, and mechanics of criminal procedure in the areas of arrest, force, and search and seizure are taught. The types, degrees, admissibility, competence, and weight of evidence and proof are studied, and the course specifically deals with rules of evidence and procedures to follow at the operational level. Prerequisite: Criminal Law I, CRJS-0203 or consent of the instructor.
