The course covers 1) the elements of page composition, 2) publication design, 3) text construction, 4) graphs, 5) typical hardware, and 6) business applications. 3 hours credit Software and Hardware Concepts is a technical survey of computer systems. This course emphasizes the interrelationships of hardware architecture, system software, and applications software. Topics of discussion include computer architecture, processors and storage systems, implications for system software design, and the effects of hardware architecture and system software on the development of applications programs in a business environment. Prerequisite: CIST-0101, Computer Concepts and Applications or CIST-0111, Microcomputer Business Software.

4 hours credit This course is designed to give students an introduction to the Macromedia Flash program. Flash is not only used for animation on the web, but is becoming a valuable tool for designing interactive training. Students will learn to use Flash as an interactive tool for Web Design. The student will create by using the basic drawing tool and the importing of other graphic and multimedia material into a finished interactive web site. Students need to have basic computer skills.

4 hours credit This course is designed to instruct the student in the proper approach to commercial web page/site design. Students will learn the basics of web page design and basic web page/site construction. Students will also be introduced to the use of cascading style sheets, DHTML, and XML/XHTML. Different web design tools will be explained. Some of these tools will be covered in detail in following courses. Web job opportunities and current issues will be discussed. Prerequisites: CIST- 0137, HTML Web Page Development.

3 hours credit This course will provide the student with an understanding of what disparate data is (data from different disciplines, with different requirements, different representations, different geographic regions, and in different formats), and the problems associated with integrating this data. Prerequisite: CIST- 0154, Principles of Data Warehousing.

3 hours credit This overview course will provide the student with an understanding of how important selecting the right data warehousing tool is. Topics discussed will include access, query, reporting, cleansing and analysis tools available for purchase from various software vendors. This course will further address the strengths and weaknesses of the various tools available. Prerequisite: CIST-0154, Principles of Data Warehousing.

3 hours credit This overview course will provide the student with knowledge of data marts. Discussion will further include reporting tools such as Crystal Reports (Seagate) and analysis tools such as DSS Agent or SAS. Prerequisite: CIST-0154, Principles of Data Warehousing.
