3 hours credit The student is introduced to basic counseling skills and will receive instruction on basic communication skills in one-toone interaction. The course provides experiential learning. Prerequisites: ADCN-0101, Introduction to Addictions.

3 hours credit Ethics will familiarize the student with state and national professional Code of Ethics, state and federal regulations regarding client rights and confidentiality and the state and national processes for professional credentialing. Pharmacology will focus on the physical and behavioral impact of alcohol and other drugs. HIV/Medical High Risk focuses on AIDS, fetal alcohol syndrome and co-occurring conditions.

3 hours credit The student will explore various theories and techniques of counseling and the application of these in Addiction Counseling. Prerequisite: Successful completion of ADCN0105, or permission of the instructor.

3 hours credit The student will explore the dynamics of addictions counseling, concentrating on family systems and family counseling. Prerequisite: Introduction to Addictions, ADCN-0101 and Counseling the Alcoholic and Drug Abuser I, ADCN-0105 or consent of the instructor.

3 hours credit Focus is on the recovery process of minority populations, including the elderly, youth and children of addicts, Native Americans, African Americans, women and persons with sexual issues.

3 hours credit This course is designed to introduce the student to theories and concepts of group dynamics. An emphasis is placed on the groups and exercises most often utilized in the treatment of addictions. The student will be able to have the opportunity to participate in a group as a group member and to act as group leader in order to practice leadership styles.

3 hours credit Students will learn how to use clinical testing, how to gather appropriate biographical, social and chemical use histories, and how to prepare individualized treatment plans, including in-patient, out-patient and continuing care planning.

3 hours credit Under supervision, the student will focus on agency philosophy, organization, and funding with limited participation in the core functions. Prerequisites: (Degree seeking students) All general education requirements AND ADCN-0101, 0105, 0110, 0206, 0207, 0208, 0210, 0220 with a grade of "C" orbetter AND have consent of the Coordinator of the Addiction Counselor Program. (Certificate seeking students) Students holding an associates or higher degree must complete ADCN-0101, 0105, 0110, 0206, 0207, 0208, 0210, 0220 with a grade of "C" or better AND have consent of the Coordinatorof the Addiction Counselor Program. Students may enroll concurrently in ADCN-0251.

3 hours credit Under supervision, the student will participate in selected agency services. The student will concentrate on core functions under the supervision of a qualified counselor at the Practicum facility. Prerequisites: (Degree seeking students) All general education requirements AND ADCN-0101, 0105, 0110, 0206, 0207, 0208, 0210, 0220, with a grade of "C" or better ANDhave consent of the Coordinator of the Addiction Counselor Program. (Certificate seeking students) Students holding an associates or higher degree must complete ADCN-0101, 0105, 0110, 0206, 0207, 0208, 0210, 0220 with a grade of "C" or better AND have consent of the Coordinator of theAddiction Counselor Program. May enroll concurrently with Addiction Counseling Field Practicum II ADCN-0250.

1 hour credit Drugs and Dosages I is an introductory course in pharmaceutical arithmetic that assists students in solving the mathematics of drugs and solutions encountered in the everyday routine of administering medications. Drug actions and interactions on the human body are discussed.
