This course is designed to assist student athletes to understand the implications of drug use in sports; describe the factors which predispose athlete drug use in sports; describe the factors which predispose athlete drug use in sports; conduct effective drug education presentations; and develop effective decision-making skills.

An activity course of golf practice time for students desiring a program to assist them as they participate in varsity golf competition.

Students planning to transfer to a four-year institution will be able to satisfy a one-credit physical education activity requirement with this course. It will fall under the category of elective credit.

Three hours lecture plus laboratory. An introduction to the physical sciences, including astronomy, physics, chemistry, geology, and meteorology. Three hours lecture per week. This course can also be taken as preparation for General College Physics I PHS1055). Pre-requisite: College Algebra MAT1023)

Three hours lecture plus laboratory. An introduction to the basic concepts of chemistry including nomenclature, atomic structure and bonding, stoichiometry, states of matter, solutions and chemical reactions. A mathematics review and instruction in the proper use of the scientifi c calculator will be included. Recommended for those with little chemistry background and as a preparatory course for College Chemistry.

Three hours lecture plus laboratory. A detailed study of basic principles of chemistry including atomic structure and bonding, inorganic nomenclature, stoichiometry, states of matter, and solutions. Emphasis placed on quantitative relationships. Recommended for those who have a background of high school chemistry and for those who are enrolled as pre-engineers or science majors. Prerequisite: College Algebra MAT1023or General Chemistry PHS1015).

3.00 - 5.00 Credits
Three hours lecture plus laboratory. A continuation of College Chemistry I. Course content includes chemical reactions and kinetics, equilibrium, coordination compounds and electrochemistry, Thermodynamics, and organic nomenclature. In the laboratory about half the semester is spent on kinetics studies, equilibria, solubility, acid-base titrations using pH meters. The second half of the semester is spent on traditional qualitative analysis. Prerequisite: A "C" or better inCollege Chemistry I PHS1025).

A study of the basic principles of mechanics, waves, and thermodynamics. Three hours lecture and one hour recitation per week. Prerequisite: College Algebra MAT1023and Plane Trigonometry MAT1093).

An astronomy lab designed to be integrated with topics covered in the lecture course PHS1083). Lab topics include the study of light, atomic spectra, photometry, lenses, and mirrors; the observation of celestial objects including the sun, moon, planets, and galaxies; and the use of telescope, star charts, and image processing. Four hours of laboratory per week. Corequisite: PHS1083).
