    Directed independent study is a structured learning experience offered as an extension of the regular curriculum. It is intended to allow students to broaden their comprehension of the principles of, and their grasp of competencies associated with academic, nonvocational disciplines. The desired outcome of the oral interpretation of literature is the audience's comprehension, understanding, and appreciation of the meaning and significance of prose and poetry through the communication of both by an oral interpreter. The purpose of an oral interpreter of literature should be to understand the meaning and significance of the work as intended by the author or poet, and to communicate the meaning of it to the members of the audience so that they can respond to it. The course is designed to expand the dramatic capabilities of the reader, give him insight into the creativity of the written word, and develop his skills in oral communication.
