    Prerequisite: DES201, CGF201 5 semester credit hours This advanced design course consists of instruction building on the graphic design principles covered in DES201 and 202. Topics covered include review of graphic design (fundamentals of typography, gestalt, balance, color) and directed projects that contain integrated design solutions, emphasizing use of materials and options for execution. Some projects will incorporate a team-building component. Examples include business identity systems, layout and editorial design, and multi-faceted design projects (e.g., corporate reports, corporate media kits, convention/event design). Emphasis will be placed on using the computer as a tool in project execution.

    Prerequisite: DES202, CGF201 5 semester credit hours This course is designed to offer studies in conceptual advertising. Directed assignments will allow students to learn discipline-specific information, deliver experience via hands-on practice and create an understanding of the history and principles of modern advertising design. Topics covered include an overview of the history of advertising design and directed projects focusing on developing concepts, art direction, layout skills, strategy and marketing research and branding.

    Prerequisite: DES202, CGF201 5 semester credit hours This course consists of instruction introducing environmental design concerns. Topics will focus on the development of 2-D and 3-D concepts and will incorporate model-building. Directed projects will focus on environmental graphics which may include trade show design, external environmental design, banners and signage, display kiosks, point-of-purchase displays and billboards. The computer will be used as one of the tools in the execution of projects.

    Prerequisite: Completion of Foundation Studies 5 semester credit hours This class is designed to introduce students to the tools and techniques that can best help them achieve professional results using watercolor. In this class, projects and exercises designed to sharpen observation skills will teach students to understand the nature of surface and structure as it pertains to representing those things they wish to render. Emphasis will be on lighting, texture, composition, design, and edges, as well as continuing to develop their understanding of color and its possibilities. Students will learn basic wet-in-wet techniques, dry brush, tinting and glazing, as well as matting, proper presentation and the care of works on paper. As always, the students will be encouraged to develop a personal style that allows them to express themselves successfully using this challenging medium.

    Prerequisite: Completion of WCP201 5 semester credit hours During the second semester of Watercolor Painting, students advance into extended experiences that enable personal statements to emerge. The course's emphasis continues to be on excellence in drawing, composition, creativity and technical refinement. Landscape studies are used to explore the creative translations of space and color.

    Prerequisite: Completion of WCP202 5 semester credit hours The Advanced Watercolor course continues to develop students' creative abilities and personal artistic style by concentrating in watercolor and other media. A deeper understanding of these media will develop as the students explore specialized techniques and approaches. The establishment of a personal style or vision will be encouraged through individual focus on the subject matter presented, including portrait and figure compositions from the model. The course work includes studio practice and homework as well as individual critiques directed by the instructor.

    Prerequisite: Completion of WCP202 5 semester credit hours Working from photographic and live sources, students will use waterbased media to produce works that feature the human figure. The art of watercolor portraiture will also be covered.

    Prerequisite: Completion of WCP301 and WCP303 5 semester credit hours Students in this course will draw upon their first six semesters of study. They will use the techniques learned and the skills acquired in their studio classes, plus the insights gained from their general education classes to begin to produce work that expresses a personal point of view. Students are expected to display a high level of skill and craftsmanship while producing work that is aesthetically sophisticated and intellectually challenging.

    Prerequisite: Completion of WCP403 5 semester credit hours Students will expand on the discoveries made in WCP403. The goal of the class is for the student to produce a professional-level body of work.
